What to Expect

Communication & Fit

Marla's Family Care values open and respectful communication. Regular check-ins are standard, and feedback is welcome at any time.

It is important that this is a collaboration in postpartum care, if something isn't working lets discuss how to improve.

Newborn Care & Education

The focus is on helping parents understand their baby, rather than "fixing" your baby, (there is nothing wrong with your child). Marla's Family Care teaches parents to recognize newborn cues, patterns, and needs in a way that builds confidence over time.

Sleep in the early weeks is about awareness of developmentally appropriateness, newborn responsiveness, and supportive rest without rigid schedules and unrealistic expectations - this can lead to stress.

Your postpartum doula assists with soothing techniques, bathing, babywearing, and everyday newborn care with an emphasis on education and empowerment for the family.

Support Offered

Marla's Family Care offers daytime, evening, and overnight postpartum support. Shifts are guided by your family's immediate needs and pre-discussed priorities.

Support extends to accompaniment to doctor's appointments, sourcing trusted professional resources as needed, and emotional and mental health support.

Collaborative troubleshooting is a key element of MFC's approach; a trusted partner in figuring out any postpartum hardships together - not alone.

Scope of Services

During a shift your postpartum doula might assist with:

  • Newborn care and soothing

  • Feeding support

  • Parent education and confidence-building

  • Emotional check-ins and reassurance

  • Light household support directly related to baby care

  • Meal preparation or snack support

  • Sibling adjustment support (when appropriate)

  • Pet integration (when needed)

Your postpartum doula does not provide medical care, deep cleaning, or tasks unrelated to postpartum support.

The Why

What I love most about postpartum doula support is witnessing parents grow into themselves - watching confidence replace fear, and exhaustion soften into steadiness.

Being a postpartum doula means holding space during one of life's most vulnerable transitions. My role is to support you, the parent(s). Your baby is the most important, but parents are my primary focus. If you are supported, then your baby will flourish.

What sets Marla's Family Care apart is a calming presence, emotional attunement, wide ranging experience, and commitment to meeting families of all kinds where they are - judgement free.
